Letters & Notices - Online Safety June 2019

Are you aware of what your child is doing and seeing on the internet?

Children love the internet. They love using the modern ways of accessing images and games on demand - wherever they are and whenever they can. This is generally great but also means there can be easy access to all sorts of dangers and problems.

Children will also boast about things they have seen and done and encourage their peers to do the same. We are finding that children have been allowed access to apps and games that they aren't recommended to be using and this can lead to the use of these resources spreading. We often hear parents and children say, "But everyone is on it!"

Sadly, internet providers don't ensure children cannot access inappropriate content online (although this may well be changing over the coming months).

Our advice to parents is to constantly check what your children are accessing and doing online, have open and honest conversations about online activity and to make sure parental controls are appropriate and working correctly.

There are some great resources available through the NSPCC and we have included links to some below the following banner......
