Snowdonia Trip February 2023 - Latest News

The next adventure!

Its about 11 weeks until Sunday the 26th February 2023 - the day we set off on our North Wales adventure!

As Christmas is just around the corner there may be a few ideas for stocking fillers.

All technical equipment is provided, which includes waterproofs, but waterproof gloves would be a good idea.

Cheap, stretchy gloves make a sensible back up if the waterproof ones get a dunking.

A warm hat is always useful but doesn't need a bobble as this won't work with climbing helmets.

Keeping warm can be the greatest challenge and this is best achieved with building up layers. Thermal base layers with long sleeves and legs, lightweight T shirts and then thin fleeces are all good. There is no end to how much you can spend but as a general rule both Aldi and Lidl sell good quality and affordable outdoor gear - you've just got to keep a look out for it!

Another idea would be travel games for the long journey. Best if not consisting of millions of tiny playing peices. Card games usually work best.

The most important item, and worth spending a little extra on, is good quality outdoor socks. These will be comfortable and warm and help keep your child happy whilst in the wilds - walking, climbing, exploring.

Finally, some children enjoy a hot drink when out and about. This needs to be in a suitable 'flask' or bottle. We have seen all sorts of things over the years and quite a few just don't work. Insulated cups don't work at all and some of the bottle flasks don't retain any heat. Check the effectiveness by filling with hot water and feeling the outside of the bottle. If it feels warm then it probably won't keep the drink hot and may be a burn hazard as well. Old fashioned glass vaccuum flasks end up smashed more often than not so try to avoid them. Note - there is no need for a flask - only if your child is likely to enjoy a hot drink of soup or chocolate.

We will share further information in the new year and organise a parent session on Zoom (or maybe even in person).

A reminder of the dates - we leave on Sunday 26th February (about 8am) and return on Saturday 4th March (about 5pm).

A bit of Welsh for you - Nadolig llawen - Happy Christmas!
